สารสนเทศศึกษาเชิงวิพากษ์ Critical Information Studies
Economists, sociologists, linguists, anthropologists, ethnomusicologists, communication scholars, lawyers, computer scientists, philosophers, and librarians have all contributed to this emerging field. Critical Information Studies interrogates the structures, functions, habits, norms, and practices that guide global flows of information and cultural elements. Instead of being concerned merely with one’s right to speak (or sing or publish), Critical Information Studies asks questions about access, costs, and chilling effects on, within, and among audiences, citizens, emerging cultural creators, indigenous cultural groups, teachers, and students. Central to these issues is the idea of “semiotic democracy,” the ability of citizens to employ the signs and symbols ubiquitous in their environments in manners that they determine.

เท่าที่ผมเข้าใจก็น่าจะเป็นประมาณนั้น ซึ่งจริง ๆ ถ้ามองจากมุมมอง Information Science ผมว่า คนใน field คิดว่า ไม่ใช่เนื้อหาใหม่ เพียงแต่เป็นการกำหนดขอบเขตของสิ่งที่คนสนใจ ให้อยู่ในหมวดหมู่เดียวกัน เพราะจริง ๆ ตอนนี้มันก็ค่อนข้างกระจัดกระจาย จะเรียกภาพรวมทั้งหมดนี้ว่าอะไรก็ลำบากต้นเดือนหน้า Siva เค้าจะมาบรรยายที่โรงเรียน ได้ความว่าอย่างไร อาจจะมาเล่าให้ฟังครับ
เท่าที่อ่านอินโทรคร่าว ๆ ผมก็คิดว่าตัวกรอบคิด ก็น่าจะประมาณ สัญวิทยา วัฒนธรรมศึกษา โดย "สารสนเทศ" ในที่นี้ ก็คือ "ตัวบท" (text) นั่นเองและไอเดียที่บอกว่า "Critical Information Studies asks questions about access, costs, and chilling effects on, within, and among audiences"ก็น่าจะคล้ายกับใน การวิเคราะห์วาทกรรมเชิงวิพากษ์ (critical discourse analysis) ที่ว่า ภาษามีผลต่อสังคม และเช่นกัน สังคมมีผลต่อภาษาด้วย กลับไปกลับมา โดย สารสนเทศ ในที่นี้ ก็ไม่พ้นเป็นรูปแบบหนึ่งชอง ภาษาผมเพิ่งศึกษางานกลุ่มนี้ ยังไม่รู้อะไรเท่าไหร่ครับ แต่ก็อยากแลกเปลี่ยน

"Discourse Analysis" ในความหมาย ชื่อสาขาภาษาไทยใช้ "วาทกรรมวิเคราะห์"งั้น "Critical Discourse Analysis" ก็ควรจะเป็น"วาทกรรมวิเคราะห์เชิงวิพากษ์"ส่วน "discourse analysis" ในความหมาย การกระทำก็น่าเป็น "การวิเคราะห์วาทกรรม"
